After eight years in the east, Sabra has returned to Hakor, and with the blessing of her commander, guides her surviving vury followers home to Crescent Ridge. On the way, she encounters and fights mysterious beasts covered in plates of mirrors like armor. Not until after her arrival at the Lunar Temple does she understand that these creatures were but harbingers of a doom that could befall all of Hakor. Under a divine directive, she and her young friend Xenta Di'curio embark on a quest to discover the source of this threat.
In Crescent Ridge, Caemorr Tris'er has found a new home and a new life. However, trauma from her time in the Huth continues to haunt her. When Sabra and Xenta leave Crescent Ridge, Sabra leaves Caemorr with a blessing and call that shakes Caemorr's already delicate heart to the core. She chooses to run from her new calling, finding a new friend in Sylvia Brooder-Master in the process. However, Sylvia has demons of her own that will force Caemorr to reconcile what she wants to do and what she must do in the new life that she has been given.
